**Job Overview**
This job is about overseeing nursing services to ensure good care for residents based on nursing practices and rules set by the state and federal government. The person in this role will manage daily nursing activities done by nursing assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
**General Duties**
- Work with the Physician's Computer Company for Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR). - Give and record medications, treatments, and check things like blood sugar as directed, and keep track of how residents respond.
- Write down doctors' orders correctly.
- Complete monthly reports as scheduled.
- Review and update care plans with nursing assistants each month to match what the resident needs at that time.
- Inform the RN Supervisor right away if there is a big change in a resident's health.
- Report and keep track of any changes in a resident’s health to the RN Supervisor.
- Communicate any resident transfers to their family and send emails to department heads.
- Fill out transfer forms for any transfers.
- Update care plans to include clear, specific goals based on the resident's current condition, and guide the team on how to implement these plans.
- Help doctors during their rounds, examinations, and treatments when needed.
- Collect lab samples, like urine or stool, and send them to the hospital with the right paperwork. Record in the PCC (Patient Care Computer) when lab tests are done.
- Upon a resident’s death, oversee and help with after-death procedures and help collect their belongings. Notify department heads of the death by email and make calls as directed by the RN Supervisor.
- Encourage residents to join in scheduled activities.
- Inform the team about any changes in residents’ conditions, care plans, and special tasks that need to be completed.
- Assist the RN Supervisor in reviewing nursing assistants annually.
- Help write praises and counseling records with the RN Supervisor as needed.
- Complete incident reports accurately or assist team members in writing them.
- Document weights and vital signs, following up as necessary, including reweighing residents if there's a three-pound difference from the last weight.
- Clean and restock treatment trays every day.
- Prepare daily reports for the unit or wing.
- Count narcotics with another nurse at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Keep an accurate list of residents’ belongings and note any new items that come in or leave the facility.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and complete housekeeping tasks as scheduled.
- Submit maintenance requests when needed.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment and report any safety hazards.
**Requirements**
- Nursing Home Experience is a plus.
- New graduates are welcome to apply.
- Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
- COVID-19 vaccination is required.
- Must have a current nursing license in Pennsylvania or a temporary work permit by the interview time.
- Knowledge of medical cleanliness, body mechanics, personal care for residents, proper equipment use, observation skills, and nursing theory is necessary.
- Must understand and follow regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, and the philosophy of the institution.
- Should maintain a courteous and professional attitude towards residents, visitors, and coworkers, always ready to meet the needs of elderly residents.
- Must be aware of costs, use time wisely, and take care of equipment properly.
- Must be able to receive and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Good communication and observation skills are essential.
**Certification Requirements**
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
**State License Requirements**
- Must have a current Pennsylvania nursing license or have applied for one by the interview time.
